Man Shot to Death During Robbery at Seven Courts Apartments in Atlanta, Georgia.
Shots were fired at Seven Courts Apartments Wednesday morning, April 20, 2022. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that Atlanta Police responded to shots fired at Seven Courts Apartments near the 2800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive shortly after 10 a.m. Police found a man dead inside one of the buildings and suspect the shooting was likely the result of a robbery. The victim has not been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
Seven Courts Apartments is managed by TPI and has been the home to several prior shootings. One guest review states, “They say they have security but they don’t. They use to have Atlanta Police Department to patrol the premises but they got rid of them and when asked why, we were told it wasn’t in the budget and that our rent would go up if we preferred them.” Another review describes Seven Courts as a “drug infested prostitute king pin.”
What Crimes Are Preventable at Apartment Complexes?
Legal contributor Attorney Brian Mickelsen, an experienced crime victim lawyer, represents crime victims and gunshot victims injured or killed in shootings, stabbings, and assaults at apartment complexes and commercial properties.
“There are crimes of opportunity and targeted crimes. Crimes of opportunity are deterrable if reasonable actions are taken. An example of a crime of opportunity is robbery. Here, the shooting at Seven Courts Apartments appears to be the result of a robbery. If apartment complexes install controlled-access gates to keep trespassers from entering the property; if they install and monitor cameras; if they hire a courtesy officer, security officer, or off-duty officer to maintain a physical presence on the property – it is more likely than not those crimes of opportunities like robberies occur.”
