Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit After South Carolina Stabbing

WrongfulDeath

Although shootings at restaurants and bars in South Carolina generate considerable media buzz, stabbings are often overlooked in comparison. The family of a woman slain by a man with a knife wants to ensure accountability by drawing attention to the incident. They claim that the stabbing never would have happened if the bar owner had simply been more responsible in their implementation of proper security, and they are suing for wrongful death in South Carolina.

South Carolina Club Had “50 Prior Police Calls” Involving Violent Crimes

On March 23rd, 2026, ABC 15 News reported that the family of a stabbing victim was suing the owner of the last South Carolina bar she ever visited. The mother of four was celebrating her 36th birthday when she was stabbed by a man now facing murder charges. In their lawsuit, the plaintiffs allege that deputies visited the bar on approximately 50 occasions for violent crime reports before the fatal stabbing.

The family believe that this extensive “history of violence” indicates that the bar owner was aware that stabbing attacks were possible and yet didn’t do enough to prevent this from happening. This directly contradicts claims made by the bar owner. Previously, this individual pointed out that the bar has a clear sign banning weapons. In addition, security officials at the establishment apparently carry out pat-down searches of anyone who enters.

On the other hand, one might argue that the owner made problematic statements immediately after the stabbing. First, he offered his condolences to the family, which some might interpret as an admission of negligence. The owner also admitted that the deputies who responded to the stabbing were in the parking lot when the attack occurred, having just responded to another violent incident at the same establishment. This lends credence to the allegations of constant violence on the premises.

Finally, the owner admitted that he was capable of increasing security measures, and that he probably should make these improvements in light of the recent attack.

Stabbing Attacks Are All Too Common in South Carolina

Although the focus is often on shootings, stabbing attacks are also far too common in South Carolina. In April of 2026, a stabbing occurred between two homeless individuals in Greenville. Also in April, a fatal stabbing occurred in Hampton County. While random stabbings are common, these fights often break out between individuals at clubs, bars, and restaurants.
