Local news reports that the accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon. James Gilbert, 43, was in a 2002 GMC dump/paint truck. The truck was stationary and in a construction zone. An international tractor-trailer driven by Angel Perez left I-165 and collided with Gilbert’s vehicle. Perez’s tractor-trailer caught fire, and he was also killed in the incident. Some details of the incident, including how Perez’s tractor-trailer left I-165, are still unknown.
“Drivers of commercial vehicles are professional drivers. They require a special type of license, training, and skillset. Leaving the interstate in a construction area would be a clear infraction. There are a number of explanations for this negligence – distracted driving, falling asleep at the wheel, poorly-maintained vehicle, to name a few.”
It is imperative to recover the following evidence:
Dash Cam Video
Witness statements and contact information
Photographs from the scene
Electronic black box data from all vehicles involved
Vehicle inspections
Hours of service logs
Toxicology reports
