Multiple Drownings Reported in South Carolina

In the space of about a week, multiple victims have drowned in South Carolina. These incidents occurred at beaches, lakes, and pools, and they highlight the safety issues associated with swimming in virtually any body of water. 90-Year-Old Victim Drowns After Car Crashes Into Lagoon

On April 3rd, 2026, ABC News 4 reported that a 90-year-old victim had lost her life after crashing her car into a lagoon in Beaufort County. Police say that her vehicle veered off the road before crashing into the water. Although officials eventually recovered her body, the exact circumstances of the car crash are not clear. An investigation is ongoing.

Teenager Dies in Hotel Pool 

On April 4th, 2026, WBTW News 13 reported that a 14-year-old girl had also drowned after an incident at a hotel pool. The fatal accident occurred in Myrtle Beach. Other details regarding the accident are unclear, including the presence or absence of lifeguards at the pool.

Body of Drowning Victim Recovered in Williamsburg County

On April 5th, 2026, ABC 15 News reported that another drowning victim had been recovered by diving teams in Williamsburg County. The victim died near Nesmith under unclear circumstances, and the Department of Natural Resources took the lead in recovering the body. Although they had a sonar boat and dive equipment, the cold temperatures made it difficult to remain underwater for very long.

Drowning Reported at Folly Beach

On April 6th, 2026, another victim died after drowning at Folly Beach. It is not clear why or how the man initially went under, but several bystanders attempted to save his life. These included an off-duty ICU nurse and an off-duty firefighter who attempted CPR after pulling the man out of the water. Ultimately, these attempts were unsuccessful. It is not clear whether a lifeguard was on duty at the beach.
