What can business owners do to protect their customers from increasing violence at gas stations and convenience stores?
Legal contributor Attorney Brian Mickelsen, an experienced crime victim lawyer, represents crime victims and gunshot victims injured or killed in shootings, stabbings, and assaults at commercial and residential properties.
“Over the past year, the Atlanta City Council has proposed an ordinance requiring gas station owners to install surveillance cameras in an effort to fight crime. One city councilwoman, Natalyn Archibong, reports that her niece was a victim of a carjacking at a gas station. We are seeing an uptick in violence at the gas pump and customers want a safe transaction.”
Mickelsen adds, “Gas stations should install quality exterior and interior cameras, regularly monitor cameras, remove loiters on the property, maintain a criminal trespass list, and where necessary, hire an off-duty office to patrol the premises.”
