Severe Tractor-Trailer Crashes Reported Across South Carolina

TruckCrash

Tractor-trailer crashes in South Carolina continue to alarm local residents across the entire state. Some of these crashes have ended in fiery explosions, and some have caused deaths. What can we do to improve safety in the trucking industry? Could a truck accident lawsuit help hold this industry accountable? Should you contact a Charleston semi-truck accident lawyer to discuss your options after a similar crash?

Tractor-Trailer Fire Reported on I-26

In May of 2025, WIS10 reported that a major semi-truck fire had erupted on I-26. Local authorities in Swansea say that a tractor-trailer caught fire and soon became “fully engulfed,” prompting first responders to arrive at the scene in full force. Fortunately, no one was injured in the blaze.

That said, the incident could have been much worse. It’s not clear what caused the fire, and the truck may have been carrying flammable or explosive cargo. Under different circumstances, other motorists may have been caught in the inferno with potentially deadly consequences.

Deadly Semi-Truck Crash Reported in Spartanburg County

Also in May, another semi-truck crash on I-26 ended with at least one fatality. Authorities say the collision occurred between a tractor-trailer and an SUV near Exit 44 of the highway. Police didn’t say much else about the crash or its cause. However, we can safely assume that it was an occupant of the SUV that passed away in the collision. Smaller vehicles are extremely vulnerable to semi-truck crashes, while truckers often emerge from these collisions completely unharmed.

Deadly U-Haul Crash Reported in Charleston

In related news, a woman driving a U-Haul truck was arrested and charged after causing a fatal accident in Charleston. Local police say that seven individuals were also injured by the crash. The incident began when the officers attempted to stop the defendant for a traffic violation. The defendant then refused to stop, prompting a pursuit that quickly became dangerous. Due to the obvious hazards, police decided to call off the chase.

However, this did not stop the defendant from driving erratically. She eventually started driving on the wrong side of the road before hitting two pedestrians. After veering back onto the right side of the road, she impacted a Mercedes. This collision pushed the Mercedes into a Honda motorcycle, which subsequently struck a Chevrolet. One passenger on the motorcycle died as a result of this chain-reaction crash. The defendant was arrested and charged with several crimes.
