Shootings Reported at South Carolina Bars and Gas Stations

Security Guard

Within the past week, two major shootings have occurred at a bar and a gas station in South Carolina. These incidents should come as no surprise, as South Carolina has seen plenty of similar shootings across the state. While they may have become a regular occurrence, victims do not have to simply accept them as a reality of life. Instead, they can push back and file negligent security lawsuits in South Carolina.

Security Guard Opens Fire at Richland County Nightclub

Local police say that they are closely investigating a shooting that occurred at a Richland County nightclub in May of 2026. The incident occurred at around 1:00 AM, and it involved a security guard opening fire on a man who drew a firearm. According to police, the altercation began with two guests at the club. The security guard then intervened, leading both individuals out of the establishment.

At this point, one of the guests (a woman) then became aggressive toward the security guard, causing him to pepper-spray her. When the other guest discovered that the woman had been pepper-sprayed, he drew a gun. This caused the security guard to open fire, and he struck the other individual multiple times.

The authorities took this opportunity to remind individuals that licensed security guards in South Carolina have the same legal authority as sheriffs when protecting premises. Although this incident is perhaps a good example of when property owners take security seriously, it still highlights the prevalence of gun violence at bars and similar establishments in South Carolina.

Armed Robbery Reported at Summerville Gas Station

At around the same time, authorities in Summerville reported that an armed robbery had occurred at a gas station. Deputies responded to the robbery at around 8:00 PM, but there was no word on potential injuries, arrests, or other pertinent details.

Like bars, gas stations seem to attract high rates of crime. While armed robberies are relatively common at these businesses, criminals may also target drivers who park at these locations for carjackings and robberies. Too often, gas station owners fail to take necessary security precautions, contributing to the dangers that average drivers face.

Over the past few years, many people have been shot and killed at South Carolina gas stations. Whether you were targeted by a criminal or shot in the crossfire during an altercation between two other people, you may have the right to pursue a negligent security lawsuit.
