South Carolina Restaurant Shooting Leaves One Dead as Police Search for Suspect

Liability7

On March 22nd, 2026, The State reported that a fatal shooting at a South Carolina restaurant had occurred. The incident left one man dead. As of this writing, police are still searching for the suspect, and they have warned the public to beware of this dangerous individual. If a similar shooting harmed you or someone you love, you might want to discuss the possibility of a South Carolina negligent security lawsuit with an experienced lawyer.

Man Shot in the Chest and Abdomen in Greenwood Restaurant

Reports indicate that the victim was shot once in the chest and a second time in the abdomen during the shooting. The victim and the assailant became involved in a verbal altercation while inside a Greenwood restaurant, with the assailant eventually resorting to violence. The coroner’s office seemed to indicate that the 41-year-old victim may have survived the shot to the abdomen, but the chest wound proved fatal.

As of March 25th, police are still searching for the man responsible. Police believe they know who carried out the murder, and while they are asking witnesses to come forward, they have also warned people to stay away from the suspect if they see him on the street.

The incident occurred just before 2:00 AM, and these kinds of late-night altercations have unfortunately become quite common in South Carolina. Restaurants that remain open long into the morning hours should have some kind of security plan in place. For decades, fast-food restaurants and late-night establishments have attracted all manner of dangerous criminals.

Can You Sue a Restaurant for a Late-Night Shooting?

You may be able to file a negligent security lawsuit against a late-night restaurant if you were injured in a shooting at the establishment. A wrongful death lawsuit against the property owner may also be possible if you lost a loved one to a fatal shooting of this nature. In order to achieve success, you need to establish that the property owner should have been aware of the threat of violence before the shooting.

You can establish negligence in various ways, but perhaps the most obvious option is to highlight past shootings at the same establishment. A “history of violence” at the restaurant implies that the owner knew (or should have known) that future shootings were going to happen.

Can a Negligent Security Lawyer in South Carolina Help Me?

While this recent restaurant shooting in South Carolina is certainly tragic, incidents like these have become a common occurrence. Something as simple as grabbing a bite to eat with friends or family is now a risky decision, but it shouldn’t be this way. Restaurant owners have a legal duty to protect you from danger, and you may be able to hold them accountable with a negligent security lawsuit.
