South Carolina Shootings Continue As Girlfriend Sues Restaurant for Wrongful Death

WrongfulDeath

South Carolina shootings continue to rock communities and spread fear among innocent people. These shootings are occurring in restaurants, gas stations, hotels, and strip malls. Some of these shootings have proven fatal, while others have led to life-altering injuries. If a shooting injured you or someone you love, you may be able to take action by filing a negligent security lawsuit in South Carolina.

North Charleston Strip Mall Shooting Leads to Two Arrests

In late July of 2025, North Charleston police announced two arrests in connection with a strip mall shooting. The defendants face allegations of shooting one person in the back and a second person in the chest. Witnesses spotted the pair fleeing in a vehicle after the alleged crimes.

Using surveillance footage, police determined that the defendants had fled in a dark Toyota Corolla. This footage helped the authorities track down the defendants, who both face charges of attempted murder.

Hotel Shooting Leaves One Dead

Also in late July, a 23-year-old man was killed in a hotel shooting near Carowinds. The York County Sheriff’s Office states that the incident occurred at around 3:30 AM in the parking lot of the motel. Although police have identified one person of interest, they have not made any arrests as of this writing. The incident is still under investigation.

Girlfriend of Slain Man Sues Restaurant for Wrongful Death, Negligent Security

In related news, the former girlfriend of a man killed in a restaurant shooting has decided to sue the establishment for wrongful death. The fatal shooting occurred in 2022, and the girlfriend believes that the victim’s employer could have prevented the tragedy. Although the co-worker who carried out the shooting is now serving a 40-plus-year sentence for murder and weapon possession, the girlfriend believes that the shooting was planned.

Argument Over Parking Spot Leads to Shooting

Another July incident involved a shooting at a gas station, and it highlights the senseless level of violence that has become so common in South Carolina. According to authorities in Richland County, the shooting erupted over a parking spot. Deputies say that the shooter “became agitated” due the victim’s decision to park in a certain spot, and this ultimately caused him to open fire. Fortunately, the man survived – and the round struck him in the leg. In addition, deputies managed to track down the shooter after he fled to Georgia.
