Who Can Be Held Liable After A Shooting At Gas Station?
Legal contributor Attorney Brian Mickelsen, an experienced crime victim lawyer, represents crime victims and gunshot victims injured or killed in shootings, stabbings, and assaults at gas stations, convenience stores, motels, hotels, shopping centers, and other commercial properties.
Owners and operators of gas stations and other properties have a legal responsibility to keep the premises safe and protect patrons from foreseeable harm. If the business owner fails to do so, a patron who is shot or attacked at a dangerous property can file a civil lawsuit against the owner. An unsafe gas station that has poor lighting conditions, no surveillance cameras, or no security guard can be liable for a gas station shooting. Additionally, where there is a history of prior incidents of crime and violence, a gas station may be responsible for a shooting.
