South Carolina Woman Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Utility Company

WrongfulDeath5

In June of 2025, Fox News reported that a South Carolina woman had filed a wrongful death lawsuit against a utility company. The woman claims that the company is responsible for the death of her fiancé, and her case could provide her with crucial compensation for her family’s losses. Could you take similar legal action if you recently lost your loved one? Could a South Carolina wrongful death lawyer help you pursue positive outcomes?

Fiancée Sues After Fatal Bulldozer Accident in Georgetown County

This case stems from an incident in May of 2024 that claimed the life of a 24-year-old worker. The employee was operating a bulldozer at his workplace when the machinery fell into some kind of void. The entire bulldozer and the employee were engulfed and covered in coal. No one saw the accident, and the worker was operating the bulldozer alone. As a result, there was no one around to call for help or dig him out of the void.

An investigation allegedly identified a faulty GPS system in the bulldozer. The victim’s family says that if this feature had been working properly, the accident would not have been fatal. The worker remained buried for half an hour before management was finally notified of an issue, and they tried to locate the individual. However, this proved challenging due to the faulty GPS system, and it took several hours for first responders to find his body. By this time, it was obviously far too late to save his life.

To make matters even worse, the victim’s body wasn’t even inside the bulldozer when they finally reached it. Instead, the victim had fallen 50 feet deeper – and it took another 24 hours of digging to finally locate him. An investigation determined that the bulldozer had actually crushed the man after falling onto his chest. While the specific injury mechanics aren’t exactly clear, the worker might have been ejected from the vehicle before being crushed.

The family is now suing the utility company that operated the facility where the victim worked. It is unclear whether this is his direct employer, or whether he was working for a different contractor. Whatever the case may be, the family clearly believes that the accident occurred due to gross and reckless negligence. If the court agrees, the family may be allowed to sue regardless of whether the company was the victim’s direct employer.
