Man Arrested for Multiple Sexual Assaults in South Carolina Parking Lots

_ArrestHands

On May 1st, 2026, ABC News 4 reported that officers had arrested a man on suspicion of committing multiple sexual assaults in South Carolina parking lots. This arrest draws attention to a serious issue facing many women in South Carolina, and some might argue that retail businesses should be doing more to ensure effective security in their parking lots. If you were sexually assaulted in a parking lot and you’re curious about potential compensation, contact an experienced negligent security lawyer in South Carolina.

Teen Faces Multiple Charges for “Slapping, Grabbing, or Fondling” Women in Parking Lots

Officers say that the defendant is just 19 years old, and he now faces charges of second-degree assault and battery, kidnapping, and attempted first-degree criminal sexual conduct. The teen allegedly assaulted up to four women in various parking lots over a period of about a month between February and March of 2026.

According to the authorities, this individual waited at parking lots at major retail businesses, such as Target and Publix. The teen then snuck up behind women walking to their vehicles before slapping, groping, or fondling them. He then fled the scene. However, police were able to identify him using security footage, witness statements, and other evidence.

Once they obtained warrants for the man’s arrest, detectives moved in and arrested the teen in North Charleston. Authorities warn that additional victims may not yet have come forward, and they urge anyone who was assaulted by this individual to come forward and file reports with their local police departments.

Women are frequently targeted by predators in parking lots, although these incidents are not always sexual in nature. A few days after this man was taken into custody, WSPA reported that a teen girl had been forced to defend herself with a hatchet after being assaulted by another female. It is unclear why the two girls were fighting, although the suspect was eventually apprehended and charged.

Is a Retail Business to Blame for Parking Lot Sexual Assaults?

Retail businesses have a legal duty of care to make sure their premises are safe, and this includes parking lots. At the bare minimum, businesses should have bright lighting and security cameras. If numerous incidents occur at parking lots, businesses may need to hire security guards to patrol the premises. Adequate lighting can be more important than many businesses realize, as predators often hide in the shadows before attacking women.

Can a South Carolina Negligent Security Lawyer Help Me?

Sexual assaults at retail parking lots are unacceptable. Women should be able to shop at any store at any time without fear of being groped, slapped, or fondled by assailants.
