Gas Stations in South Carolina Remain Unsafe Due to Constant Shootings

_GasStation

Gas stations and restaurants in South Carolina remain unsafe due to the threat of shootings. With each passing week, innocent people face catastrophic or fatal injuries while filling up their vehicles or eating meals. If you have suffered injuries due to an assault at a gas station, restaurant, or any other business, you may be eligible to file a negligent security claim in South Carolina.

Man at Gas Station Allegedly Shot After Altercation Involving Doritos

In August of 2025, The Sun News reported that a shooting had occurred at a gas station in the Little River area. The victim claims he was shot by a man who was jealous of his ability to purchase snacks, including cheese dip and Doritos. A verbal altercation involving the snacks began inside the gas station, and the assailant allegedly followed the victim outside before shooting him multiple times.

Fortunately, the victim survived after being rushed to a nearby hospital by first responders. While receiving treatment, healthcare workers removed at least one bullet from the man’s body. The man’s survival was also likely due to his quick thinking, as he struck the assailant with his vehicle during the assault in self-defense.

The Sun News also states that the assailant might have been working at the gas station at the time of the assault. If this is true, then the gas station owner would almost certainly face a personal injury lawsuit of some kind due to the negligent behavior of a staff member.

Man Wounds Children and Pregnant Woman After Opening Fire at Gas Station

Later in August, Bluffton Today reported that five injuries had occurred at a gas station in Ridgeland. The victims include two children and a pregnant woman, and the assailant allegedly opened fire on two separate vehicles filled with occupants. Although the assault began at a gas station, the assailant followed the victims in his pickup truck before forcing their two vehicles off the road. He then continued to fire upon the vehicles, hitting multiple occupants in the process. He was subsequently sentenced to decades in prison.

One Fatality Reported After Gas Station Shooting in Columbia

Also in August, WISTV reported that one person had died after a gas station shooting in Columbia. Officials say that the shooting occurred at around 10:00 PM, but they released very little additional information other than the fact that the victim passed away at a nearby hospital.

Can a Negligent Security Lawyer in South Carolina Help Me?

A negligent security lawyer in South Carolina may be able to help if you were injured during a shooting at a gas station or restaurant. While the threat of violent criminals is the responsibility of law enforcement, business owners should also take steps to improve security on their premises. This is particularly true if numerous shootings continue to occur at the same establishments. To learn more about the possibility of a lawsuit, contact Mickelsen & Dalton, LLC today.
