Inadequate Security? 4 People Stabbed by Man at the New Phoenix and Last Frontier Casinos in La Center, Washington

The attack occurred around midnight when Scott Harmier, 41, stabbed four people with what witnesses say was a hunting knife. The four victims were taken to a nearby hospital. Harmier fled from the scene, and police pursued him in a high-speed chase before immobilizing his vehicle and taking him into custody.

What Can Businesses Do to Combat the Violence?

Legal contributor Attorney Brian Mickelsen, an experienced wrongful death lawyer, has represented many families of those killed or injured by the actions or negligence of others. Mr. Mickelsen offered the following commentary on Georgia’s growing violence:

“Businesses play an important part in addressing Washington’s violent crime problems. Far too often, business owners allow crime, loitering, vandalism, and drug activity to happen on their property without addressing it. In a matter of seconds, what appears to be a non-violent crime can turn deadly. This is precisely why businesses should maintain open lines of communication with local law enforcement. Request the crime stats. Stay informed about what happens on your property. Trespass loiters and dangerous persons. Maintain adequate lighting. Clean up the graffiti. Install cameras that work. And hire a security guard where necessary.”
