Pursuing Compensation for Entrapment After a South Carolina Semi-Truck Accident

_CrushedCar

Semi-truck accidents involve serious impacts, often smashing and compressing smaller vehicles. These impacts can leave victims entrapped within their vehicles, causing a range of additional hazards and health concerns. If you were trapped inside your vehicle after a semi-truck accident, you may be dealing with both psychological trauma and physical injuries. How can you pursue compensation for this type of semi-truck accident in South Carolina?

Semi-Truck Accident in South Carolina Leaves Victim Trapped Inside Wreckage

In late June of 2025, a victim was entrapped within the wreckage of a South Carolina truck accident. First responders said the man was in “critical condition” after the crash, which left him “partially ejected” from his vehicle. This victim was driving the semi-truck prior to the incident, and he lost control on the I-95. After losing control, the semi-truck veered into a group of trees inside the median.

After impacting the trees, the front of the trailer came loose – causing the cargo to smash into the back of the cab. This cargo included 50-pound bags of sugar. When these heavy bags smashed into the back of the cab, the driver was propelled through his windshield. First responders found him trapped inside the wreckage and spent the next 30 minutes trying to free the severely injured trucker.

Somehow, he survived the crash. Paramedics were able to administer a blood transfusion and saved his life before transporting him to the nearest hospital via air ambulance. Authorities confirmed that the victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Why Is Entrapment So Dangerous During Semi-Truck Crashes?

Entrapment is dangerous because it robs victims of vital minutes and seconds. When you’re trapped inside a vehicle, paramedics can’t treat you effectively until they free you from the wreckage. Tools like the “jaws of life” can be effective, but first responders must be very careful when approaching these situations. If they’re not careful, they can cause additional injuries or unnecessary blood loss. Too often, first responders are unable to free victims in time.

In addition, entrapment can leave victims vulnerable to fires and other hazards after initial impacts. A trapped victim can only sit and wait as flames rise around them. Truck accidents may also cause additional hazards depending on their cargo. For example, an entrapped victim may become vulnerable to biohazardous, corrosive, or even radioactive cargo spilled from a trailer.
