School Bus Crashes Cause Mayhem in South Carolina

SchoolBusOnRoad

Two school bus crashes have occurred in as many days in South Carolina, prompting serious concern among parents and motorists. While one incident caused major damage to a mobile home, the other left one dead. School buses show a worrying tendency to become involved in serious crashes, and this is a trend that is emerging across the entire nation. If a school bus crash in South Carolina has harmed you or someone you love, you are fully within your rights to consider legal action.

School Bus Driver Smashes into Mobile Home After Losing Control

In May of 2024, NBC News reported that a school bus had crashed into a mobile home in Greenville County. The collision was captured by a homeowner’s surveillance camera in shocking detail. State Troopers say that the driver lost control when attempting to navigate a turn, overcorrected, and slammed into a mobile home. The school bus also destroyed a fence and a mailbox.

Images from the scene show the school bus completely lodged within the mobile home, and it is difficult to imagine how this residence could be salvaged after such a major collision. Thankfully, authorities confirmed that no one was home when the crash occurred. In addition, none of the students on board the school bus were injured.

Perhaps most notably, the school bus driver was given a speeding ticket, and she was later fired by the school district. This is not the first time a school bus driver has exhibited clear negligence on the road. Unfortunately for many parents in South Carolina, it probably won’t be the last time, either.

School Bus Crash Leaves Motorcyclist Dead

One day before this incident, another school bus was involved in a collision in Lexington. The Post and Carrier confirmed that this crash was much more serious, causing one death and at least two injuries. The school bus driver was not at fault in this situation, and authorities say that the accident was entirely caused by a van driver who rear-ended a motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist appears to have been waiting behind the school bus while students embarked. Note that it is a crime to pass school buses in this situation, so the motorcyclist was being extremely responsible. Unfortunately, a van driver approached with nowhere near as much caution. He somehow failed to notice the enormous school bus, smashed into the motorcyclist, and sandwiched the man against the back of the school bus. This impact proved fatal.

The impact was so intense that it injured two students on board the bus. One of these children had to be hospitalized due to an arm laceration, although authorities later confirmed that this was just a precautionary measure.
