South Carolina Defendants Face Consequences for Bar Shootings

Bartender_

Bar shootings in South Carolina have dominated headlines in recent years and months. If you were present at one of these shootings, you know how dangerous they can be. While the criminal justice system enforces strict penalties for those who open fire at clubs and bars, no amount of incarceration can ever heal wounds or bring back deceased loved ones. If you need further closure and justice, consider speaking with a South Carolina negligent security attorney.

St. Helena Bar Shooter Faces 14 New Charges

On March 16th, 2026, The Packet reported that the man responsible for the St. Helena bar shooting back in October was facing 14 additional charges. The man already faces four counts of murder, and these 14 additional charges will all be for first-degree assault and battery. Each count carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, and all of these charges stem from 14 people who suffered nonfatal gunshot wounds in the attack.

For the prosecutors to secure convictions on these charges, they’ll need to establish that the shooter intentionally shot all of the 14 victims. This could be challenging, as the shooter could simply claim that he accidentally hit them while aiming for the four victims.

These charges stem from a gunfight that occurred between a group of men, and police believe that there were three shooters in total. One of these shooters died in the exchange of gunfire, while the third gunman appears to have eluded law enforcement.

The Packet also reported that many of the victims and their families have filed lawsuits against the bar operator while also naming the aforementioned criminal defendant. It is not yet clear whether these lawsuits will be successful, or whether the bar operator implemented sufficient security protocols.

Man Sentenced for Bar Shooting in Conway

On March 17th, 2026, WJCL reported that another defendant had experienced similar consequences for a bar shooting in Conway. Officials say that the 32-year-old pleaded guilty to assault and battery and possession of a firearm by a felon, receiving 15 years in prison as a result. The sentence stems from a 2023 shooting in the parking lot of an establishment.

According to prosecutors, the defendant forced two of his passengers out of a vehicle before shooting one of them in the belly. The defendant then told the driver to flee the scene. Police then stopped the man a few minutes later for a traffic violation, and one of his female passengers silently alerted officials to the situation.

Can a South Carolina Negligent Security Attorney Help Me?

A negligent security lawyer in South Carolina may be able to help if you need compensation and closure after a bar shooting. While recent headlines suggest that those responsible for bar shootings face serious criminal consequences, this doesn’t exactly help you pay the bills. A negligence security lawsuit could cover your funeral expenses, missed income, medical bills, and any other damages you’re facing. Contact Mickelsen & Dalton, LLC today to learn more.
