South Carolina Sees Several Serious Semi-Truck Accidents

TractorTrailer

Over the past week, South Carolina has seen several serious truck accidents. Many of these tractor-trailer crashes have been fatal, and some are still under investigation. As families grieve, it has become clear that the trucking industry continues to pose safety hazards for motorists. What can you do after a tractor-trailer accident in South Carolina? Could a lawyer help you pursue compensation?

Trucker Struck and Killed by Semi-Truck on I-526

On March 27th of 2025, various sources reported that a trucker had been struck and killed on I-526. The incident occurred when a semi-truck approached a second, disabled semi-truck on the Don Holt Bridge near North Charleston. At this moment, the driver of the disabled truck fell backward – into the path of traffic. He was then struck by the passing semi-truck and killed.

After this incident, the trucker who hit the victim continued driving, but he was later located by law enforcement – and he cooperated with their investigation. This appears to have been a complete accident, as no charges were filed in connection to the fatality.

Four Victims Killed After Head-On Collision With Semi-Truck

One day later, a South Carolina man died after his truck collided head-on with a Chevrolet Avalanche. The crash also killed two small children and the driver of the Avalanche. The wreck was so intense that it caused both vehicles to burst into flames, and this might explain why no one survived.

Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Semi-Truck on I-85

A few days after that, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a semi-truck on I-85. The incident occurred in Oconee County, and police say that it began when a motorist lost control of his vehicle and struck a guardrail. As his vehicle had become disabled, the motorist exited and stepped onto the interstate. At this point, a tractor-trailer approached and hit the victim – causing fatal injuries. No charges were filed by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Motorcyclist Dies After Colliding With Truck

One day after that fatality, another victim died after his motorcycle impacted a truck towing a trailer in Clarendon County. Both vehicles were heading in the same direction, and the motorcyclist clipped the rear of the trailer before veering off the road. Although the victim was rushed to the nearest hospital by first responders, he ultimately died. The crash remains under investigation, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol did not reveal who was at fault.
