Suing for Child Fatalities After Truck Accidents in South Carolina

18WheelerShadow

Children are especially vulnerable to semi-truck crashes in South Carolina. These small victims may suffer catastrophic injuries due to the physical forces of a high-velocity truck accident. They are also more vulnerable to airbag injuries and a range of other hazards. If you have lost your child due to a semi-truck accident in South Carolina, you might be wondering about potential legal action. It is best to discuss this subject alongside a qualified injury attorney.

Cement Truck Driver Blamed for Infant’s Death in South Carolina

In April of 2024, Yahoo News reported that a cement truck had “started” a 10-vehicle pileup. This multi-vehicle accident claimed the life of a three-month-old child, who was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle caught in the crash.

According to the coroner’s report, a cement truck caused the accident by approaching a construction zone at an excessively high rate of speed. Unable to brake in time, the cement truck slammed into the back of a sedan. The sedan subsequently smashed into the back of a pickup truck – sparking a “chain-reaction” crash that eventually affected 10 vehicles in total.

The three-month-old child was sitting in the back of the sedan. After the accident, he was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite air ambulance services providing the shortest possible route to the emergency room, the child ultimately died from skull fracture complications.

It is worth noting that the parents did absolutely nothing wrong. They had secured their child with a proper restraint in the back seat while reducing their speed due to the construction zone.

State Troopers say that the cement truck driver is facing criminal charges in connection with the incident. However, they refused to reveal any further details – and the crash is still under investigation.

Filing a Wrongful Death Lawsuit After a South Carolina Semi-Truck Crash

You can file a lawsuit on behalf of a deceased loved one after a truck accident. This is called a “wrongful death lawsuit,” and it can provide justice, closure, and compensation. You may receive compensation for funeral expenses, unpaid medical expenses, and future lost earnings. In addition, you can claim non-economic damages like grief, emotional distress, and depression. It is worth noting that air ambulance trips can cost tens of thousands of dollars – and surviving families are often stuck with these bills even if their loved ones do not survive.
