Tow Truck Driver Killed in “Senseless” South Carolina Truck Accident

TowTruckDriver

In October of 2025, a tow truck driver lost his life in a semi-truck accident in South Carolina. These incidents have become all too common, and they raise numerous questions about the safety of the trucking industry. If you were struck by a semi-truck, you may have similar questions. Perhaps you lost a loved one in a fatal semi-truck accident. Whatever the case may be, a truck accident lawyer in South Carolina may be able to help.

Tow Truck Driver Killed by the Same Semi-Truck Driver Just Helped

In early October of 2025, The Island Packet reported that a tow truck driver had been struck and killed by a semi-truck on Hilton Head Island. The worker had just finished helping that same semi-truck get back on the road after a mechanical issue. Officials say that after lifting the semi-truck off a curb with his tow truck, the worker focused on rolling in his cables. He did not notice the semi-truck turning around and heading straight back for him.

Unable to dodge the large commercial vehicle, the worker was sideswiped and pinned between his own truck and the passing semi-truck. He suffered fatal, crush-related injuries. First responders later pronounced him dead at the scene. The report did not reveal whether the semi-truck driver faced any consequences, but officials did take this opportunity to issue a reminder of the “move-over law.” Under this law, drivers must give tow truck drivers and other individuals plenty of space when passing.

This type of accident is unfortunately quite common in South Carolina. Tow truck drivers face serious hazards on the road, and many die each year in almost identical incidents. This specific accident is unique, however, in that the fatal injuries were caused by the same vehicle the worker had just helped.

What if My Loved One Died After Being Struck by a Semi-Truck in South Carolina?

If your family member died under similar circumstances, you may face serious financial pressures. These might include missed future earnings, funeral costs, unpaid medical bills, and much more. A wrongful death claim could be possible in this scenario. You might also file a workers’ comp claim, although a lawsuit could offer more compensation. Note that if your loved one died due to the negligence of a third party (such as a trucking company), you may be able to file a lawsuit instead of a workers’ comp claim.

Can a South Carolina Truck Accident Lawyer Help Me?

A South Carolina truck accident lawyer may be able to help if you are recovering from injuries after being struck by a commercial vehicle. These kinds of accidents often lead to catastrophic, life-altering consequences. In many cases, families must file wrongful death claims after their loved ones are struck and killed by semi-trucks.
