Lack of Security? Two Seriously Injured in Shooting at Northlake Mall in Charlotte, NC

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, at the Northlake Mall. Two people were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A third person was injured, trying to escape the area. Police say a fight broke out after a verbal exchange inside the mall, and one of the shooting victims was an innocent bystander. This is the busiest shopping time of the year. The Northlake Mall closed down for the rest of the day.

Investigation and Questions

Because details are so limited, many important questions remain about this incident. As they pertain to a civil case, the victims might have important questions, and areas of investigation might include:

  • Who was the intended target of this shooting, if any?
  • Did the shooter have a significant criminal history?
  • Was the shooter a customer or a known person at this mall?
  • Did the victim know the shooter?
  • To the extent there was an argument, what was the nature of the argument?
  • What were security measures in place at the mall and parking lot?
  • Where, precisely, were shots fired from?
  • What is the history of crime at the Northlake Mall?
