Dangerous Motel? Inadequate Security? 28-Year-Old Tyrelle Antonio Scott of Timmonsville Shot and Killed at Motel in Florence, South Carolina

Posted By Danny Dalton | July 26 2022 | Negligent Security

Shots rang out at a Travel Lodge motel on West Palmetto Street in Florence, South Carolina. Tragically, 28-year-old Tyrelle Antonio Scott of Timmonsville, South Carolina, was found dead due to a gunshot wound. While there is limited information available at this time, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.

Reviews of the Travel Lodge reveal that this business is no stranger to violence. One guest claims her mother’s shot had been shot up. Busted drug pipes were found on the property. Guests say the motel resembles a “crime scene.”

What Can Businesses Do to Combat the Violence?

Legal contributor Attorney Brian Mickelsen, an experienced wrongful death lawyer, has represented many families of those killed or injured by the actions or negligence of others. Mr. Mickelsen offered the following commentary on Georgia’s and South Carolina’s growing violence:

“There was a simple solution to preventing a tragedy like this – increase the motel’s security presence as well as the security presence in the parking lot. Install and monitor surveillance cameras. Request prior crime data. Maintain open lines of communication with local law enforcement. Enforce a criminal trespass list. Ensure adequate lighting.”
