Dangerous Venue? Inadequate Security? Six People Shot Outside Trilogy Nightclub in Philadelphia

Posted By Danny Dalton | October 31 2022 | Negligent Security

Law enforcement officers say four women and two men were shot outside early Sunday, October 30, 2022, at 601 Spring Garden Street in Philadelphia, PA. According to police, an argument inside the club continued outside. The argument turned physical, and a man pulled a .40-caliber gun, firing into the crowd. Police believe that none of the injuries suffered by the victims will be fatal.

The criminal investigation is still in its early stages, and law enforcement has not yet named the victims or any person of interest.

Investigation and Questions

Details are so limited at this point that many simple questions remain about this incident. As the investigation pertains to a civil case for wrongful death occurring at a commercial property, basic questions might include the following:

  • Where exactly did this shooting take place?
  • Who, if anyone, was the intended target?
  • Why did the shooter fire shots? What was the motive?
  • Did any of the victims and the shooter know each other or have a prior history?
  • Did the shooter(s) have a significant criminal history?
  • Does Leo’s Nightclub have a history of crime on the property?
  • What security measures did Trilogy Nightclub have to prevent a tragedy like this?

Answers to these questions will help the victim’s family determine whether there is a potential wrongful death claim. As gun violence continues to be a problem in Albuquerque, answers and understanding can also help prevent future gun violence in the community.

How to Prevent Violence and Crime at Clubs, Lounges, and Lofts.

Legal contributor Attorney Danny Dalton, an experienced wrongful death lawyer, has represented many families of those killed or injured in shooting incidents or other attacks. Mr. Dalton offered the following commentary on this situation:

“Owners and property managers need to take reasonable steps to help prevent violence on their properties. For example, adequate lighting, security guards, trained bouncers, courtesy officers, off-duty officers, trespass lists, metal detectors, and cameras can all help to deter crime. It is also important for property owners to request and monitor crime data to get a better idea of what is happening at and around the property so that they can evaluate what security measures are necessary to keep their patrons safe. You can’t prevent all crime, but property owners should certainly take steps to discourage it from occurring on the property and risking tenants.”
